The CONNECT2SEA conference during the ASEAN-EU Science and Technology Innovation days on May 11, 2016 was formally opened by H.E. Mr Francisco Fontan Pardo, the Ambassador of EU to the ASEAN. Part of the event included sharing of experiences in ICT research and innovation collaboration and suggestions for the future activities.
The research facilitated by these grants tackles local development needs and challenges such as extreme weather conditions, access to affordable health care, food and energy security. The grants are intended to provide small-scale seed funding to start and develop collaborations between academic groups, departments and institutions in partner countries and the UK. Size of grants: £50,000 - £300,000.

CONNECT2SEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with APAN, which aims at strengthening the collaboration and ICT partnerships throughout the two networks, and at enhancing the access to the ICT programmes, research projects and events, both in the Asia Pacific region and the European Union.
The project was introduced to all the participants, followed by research presentations. Factors affecting development of visual aids for improving the autonomy of people with low vision were discussed.
CONNECT2SEA has created two e-communities of practice to provide a common platform for discussion, knowledge exchange and increased visibility of organizations and individuals from Europe to SEA and vice versa.
The event gave the opportunity to the participants to meet and discuss research projects and possible joint funding opportunities to identify methods and techniques from the field of quantum control and apply them to develop novel optical technologies. The research topics included quantum control, quantum state engineering and quantum simulations, as well as optics.
Several discussions and presentations took place focussed on the area of communications and networking, research issues and open problems in wireless networking as well as enhanced cooperation between EU and SEA. Research opportunities and collaboration of areas where Malaysian colleagues can be part of European projects were discussed.
The workshop allowed experts to actively discuss together research and applications in Internet of things to address key challenges. It is hoped this workshop will help to stimulate further the need to define clear IoT policy in SEA countries.
The European Commission organizes the first Digital Learning Round Table in the H2020 context. The EC is looking forward to a lively debate and concrete suggestions on how to advance digital learning in Europe.
The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST - ASTI) and the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will gather ICT researchers from Europe, Southeast Asia (SEA) and Japan for possible consortium formation and proposal creation intended for Horizon2020 call "ICT 20 - 2015: Technologies for better human learning and teaching."
The event aimed the establishment of two reference points for IoT researchers and innovative companies to place contacts for R&D and commercial collaboration. As for IoT collaboration opportunities, the main field of actuation was identified as environmental aimed activities in aquaculture, air quality and fire detection for emergencies management.

EU-SEA events, funded by the CONNECT2SEA project to foster research and cooperation on Internet of Things and Open Platforms topics, will be organized as part of the IEEE RIVF 2015 international conference, taking place in Can Tho, Vietnam, January 25-28, 2015.
Discussion sessions and some information related to the research topic as well as the collaboration plan took place in University of Kassel and Max Planck Institute in Berlin. Microwave sensor for the tropical tuber, preparation materials, papers concerning ground penetrating radars, information of the Porang tuber among other topics were covered.
On 1 July 2014 CONNECT2SEA was presented to the NESSI ETP by ATC, where an extensive discussion took place on the particular opportunities and activities that could enable the collaboration between the two sides.
